An Office in Transformation

Van Dynatos naar David: The book

In 2010 I won a prize in a Dutch photo magazine with the image on the left. Ever since, the wonderful morning mist that sometimes covers the meadows around my home village has been a rewarding photography subject. This series shows the best "morning mist" images that I took over the years.

Amsterdam has quite a few stations that are known for their interesting architecture. This series shows a few highlight shots, taken at the Centraal Station, Station Bijlmer Arena and the Noord-Zuid subway.

Until 2016, the Bijlmerbajes was a prison in the Amsterdam South-East area (officially called: Penitentiaire Inrichting Over-Amstel). After that, the buildings lost their function and some of it became publicly accessible. This series shows my photographic impressions of two visits, one in 2017 and another in 2019.

This has been a long-term project of photographing the former IBM office building Dynatos being transformed to apartments. It covers everything from the demolition of the interiors to the construction of the new living quarters. When the project was finished, a photobook was published, commissioned by the building company (see next portfolio item).

When the transformation of the IBM office Dynatos was finished, I had enough photographic material for a photobook. Together with the building company, we decided to publish such a book, containing not just photos but also some explanatory texts. This gallery is a digital version of this book.

When two things coincide - I am bearing a camera, plus I encounter a reflective surface - I like to capture myself in that surface. The resulting images are called "mirror selfies". The artistic challenge is always the framing. Composing this series was a lot of fun, as I hope watching it is for you.
