PPW2025 known problems and troubleshooting

The PPW2025 panel: Known issues and troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

The following are PPW2025 panel issues that we know about. If we have a solution or workaround available, it is elaborated here.

Missing documentation

When the user clicks the blue '?' icon on the buttons Darken Sky and everything below in the panel, no documentation is shown but the button script itself is executed. (If no image file is open, the error "No active document" pops up.) This is a bug in the panel that will be fixed in a future release.

The workaround is to open the documentation manually from the file system (NB the tilde (~) is the user's home directory):

  • In Windows Explorer, navigate to:

    ~\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\UXP\Plugins\External\PPW 2025_1.2.0\Documentation

  • In the MAC Finder, navigate to:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP/Plugins/External/PPW 2025_1.2.0/Documentation
  • Open the desired PDF from there

Failing installation

The installer starts but does not do anything. No error message is displayed.

This is likely caused by an outdated Photoshop version. Update to the latest version and retry.

Unclear message about color profiles

When the panel is opened for the first time, a warning is shown telling the user to store the color profiles (ICC files) that the "Other gamma" button uses. Here is what is needed.
At installation, PPW2025 installs a large set of ICC profiles in the following folder:

  • (Windows:) ~\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\UXP\Plugins\External\PPW 2025_1.2.0\Profiles
  • (MAC:) ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP/Plugins/External/PPW 2025_1.2.0/Profiles

In order to function properly, the "Other gamma" button of the panel requires these profiles to actually being installed on your system. Unfortunately, the installer is unable to do this, so a manual step is required. Proceed as follows:

  • Open WIndows Explorer or MAC Finder; navigate to the above directory; select all files; and click Install Profile from the right-mouse menu.

NB. The warning is shown at every Photoshop restart. It can be switched off from the panel menu: Preferences - PPW2025 parameters - Suppress profiles message when starting Photoshop.

Image inadvertently closed with or without error message

This happens when the following series of actions is performed by the user, but other scenarios may exist that trigger the same problem:

  • Open two image files in Photoshop (RGB coded)
  • On the first one, make a selection and click MMM+CB
  • Choose Duplicate, the action is run on a duplicate image
  • Close this duplicate without saving
  • Switch to the second file and click MMM+CB while no selection exists
  • The file is closed; sometimes an error is shown that ends with "The document with an id XX does not exist"

The obvious workaround is to not close the duplicate that was created in the third step. The good news is that we know the root cause of this issue and it will be fixed in a future release.

Preferences panel mixed up

For some buttons, an Alt-click triggers an Options panel which is displayed as a second tab on the main panel. When the user asks for system Preferences while such a second tab is open, the second tab is labeled "Preferences" but panel elements are added instead of replaced. After that, functioning becomes erratic.

The solution for this situation is to click the PPW tab and answer "Yes" on the Active Action popup that will be shown. The workaround is of course to not ask for system preferences while an action is in progress.

Donations

The panel is free. However, a lot of work went into it, so we would very much appreciate a donation. It will help to keep us motivated to continue adding new stuff to the panel. Click below button and follow the instructions. Thanks a lot!
