Troubleshooting
The following are PPW2025 panel issues that we know about. If we have a solution or workaround available, it is elaborated here.
Failing installation (1)
The installer starts but does not do anything. No error message is displayed.
This is likely caused by an outdated Photoshop version. Update to the latest version and retry.
Failing installation (2)
The installer starts, opens a Photoshop session and then shows the following error:
Installation is unsuccessful. This problem can be solved by right-clicking the installer (CCX) file and choosing Open with... - UnifiedPluginInstallerAgent.
Unclear message about color profiles
When the panel is opened for the first time, a warning is shown telling the user to store the color profiles (ICC files) that the "Other gamma" button uses. Here is what is needed.
At installation, PPW2025 installs a large set of ICC profiles in the following folder:
- (Windows:) ~\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\UXP\Plugins\External\PPW 2025_1.2.0\Profiles
- (MAC:) ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP/Plugins/External/PPW 2025_1.2.0/Profiles
In order to function properly, the "Other gamma" button of the panel requires these profiles to actually being installed on your system. Unfortunately, the installer is unable to do this, so a manual step is required. Proceed as follows:
- Open Windows Explorer or MAC Finder; navigate to the above directory; select all files; and click Install Profile from the right-mouse menu.
NB. The warning is shown at every Photoshop restart. It can be switched off from the panel menu: Preferences - PPW2025 parameters - Suppress profiles message when starting Photoshop.
S/H command as Smart Filter not working
When the Shadows/Highlights command is set to always create a Smart Filter, invoking it causes the following error:
The workaround is to invoke Alt-S/H, set the action to "Never create a Smart Filter" and for every individual case, click Create Smart Filter on the "Only this file" block.
We hope to fix this issue in the next release.
Contrast Boost Extra not working without Background layer
In case an image file has no Background layer, the Contrast Boost Extra script fails. The workaround is to flatten before clicking the button, duplicate the image and then flatten and run the action, or similarly in a Smart Object.
We hope to fix this issue in the next release.
Settings and preferences lost after installing new release
Many actions have configurable settings. When uninstalling any PPW2025 release before installing a new one, these settings are lost and reset to their defaults. Instead, the advice is to install a new release without uninstalling first. The install script uninstalls onder versions automatically; this way, settings are preserved.
Documentation not up-to-date
We are aware that not all documentation is fully up-to-date. This is on our wishlist.
